Anatune and CMAC. Using SIFT-MS to Determine Drying End Points for In-Line Process Monitoring
Posted on October 19th, 2020
Organic solvents are widely used in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), however, their presence in the final product needs to be carefully controlled and as low as is reasonably possible. Solvent drying processes are therefore of particular interest to continuous pharmaceutical manufacturing.
In this video, Mark describes the use of Selected Ion Flow Tube Mass Spectrometry (SIFT-MS) as a probe to measure the end point of a supercritical CO2 extraction technique for drying paracetamol. The data presented shows good sensitivity and allows measurements beyond the traditional gravimetric approaches. The ability to generate data is extremely beneficial since it allows immediate control of the processes used in continuous API manufacturing.
